Google Reader Authentication Error
  • JBSilJBSil June 2010

Google Reader integration fails with an authentication error every time. I have tried my username with and without the @gmail.com, I have tried my altername email addresses associated with my Google account, I have even changed my Google account password - instant authentication error every time. I have double and triple checked the username and password, so please don't suggest that I have a typo. I'm using the exact same username and password I have set up in Mail settings, and that works to get my GMail.

It gives me an Authentication Error so quickly that I'm not sure it's even checking with Google to see if the password is correct - it just errors. I also tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, in case it had cached the 'correct' password hash or something. Any suggestions?

  • JBSilJBSil June 2010

Ha! I changed my password again, this time used no symbols, and now it works. Apparently Pulse completely fails at passwords with ampersand (&) in them (and potentially other symbols). Please fix this.

  • lillqlillq June 2010

I have the same problem. Please fix this.

  • MrDingKaiMrDingKai June 2010

I am having the same issue. Love the app, but it is unfortunate I can't use the Reader functionality. Please fix!

  • JBSilJBSil June 2010

Is there any word on this?

What is the point of these forums if the Alphonso staff doesn't read or respond to bug reports?

  • ankitankit June 2010

We have just submitted an update that allows any character in passwords. We are working hard to get Pulse working with all kinds of google accounts. Stay tuned for updates!

  • damikkidamikki June 2010

I can't login at all using my @googlemail.com email address, which works on the google reader site without issue. : (

  • damikkidamikki June 2010

I can't login at all using my @googlemail.com email address, which works on the google reader site without issue. : (

  • Have the googlemail email addresses moved over to being @gmail addresses yet?

  • manfredellmanfredell June 2010

Same here. I uninstalled and reinstalled because of another issue. And suddenly it doesn't accept my google credentials. It did when I installed the first version!!!!

    Nothing works!

This stinks and I cannot use it like this!!!

  • PaulPaul June 2010

Gee, first thing I wanted to do was import my Google feeds....it doesn't work. I don't even get an error. Can I get my money back?

  • BelackorBelackor June 2010

Hey, I have the same problem than Paul. The application shows me as logged in, but I cannot see the sites I have added on Goggle Reader. Could you give us a solution please?
    David.

  • FieldywebFieldyweb June 2010

Got to report having the same issue and no special chars in my pwd..

  • McSmartMcSmart June 2010

Same here. No chance to use my googlemail.com account.

You guys know of this problem since weeks, and even after the update to version 1.1.2 your comment on "Future updates" in the App Store says "Improved google reader capabilities".

Please do everybody a favour and leave out the word "improved" since even basic google reader capabilities don't work reliably.

I'm mad about having payed for this app.

  • lyradlyrad June 2010

Just bough this with the sole intent on syncing with Google but it just does not work, as above you put in your user name and password and then nothing happens, it states you can log out at anytime and you have to press cancel, then no feeds show up and nothing happens.

Also if you then click on a letter on the side of where the feeds should be it crashes.

Please fix or refund because as it stands it is useless to me

  • SergioITSergioIT June 2010

Same here. Please, update and fix this bug: without Google Reader sync, Pulse it's useless for many of us.

  • CarolynCarolyn June 2010

I'm in a similar boat as lyrad. I bought Pulse today because of the touted Google Reader integration and yet cannot login successfully. I changed my password and deleted all special characters to no avail. Sadly, it looks like this problem has persisted since at least June 1. I sure wish I had read the forums before purchasing. I'm not happy about having spent money on Pulse. PLEASE fix this!

  • AlexKAlexK June 2010

    @McSmart +1

Same issue as described by @lyrad. I have a @googlemail.com address. Very annoying for a paid app. It can't be that hard as many other iOS apps have google account logins and they all work for me. Also it is totally unclear what you are supposed to enter, whether just the username or the full email address including the @googlemail or whatever suffixes google is giving out.

  • AliAli June 2010

I have the same problem here. I use my @gmail.com address and nothing happens. I am so upset that I spent money on this app when it can't sync with google reader. please fix this problem ASAP.

  • KhaledKhaled June 2010

I just updated and I have the same authentication issue. It's a pretty useless app without Google Reader. So, how do we get our money back?!

  • lyradlyrad June 2010

Received this comment from the support team:-

"Google just changed their authentication method two days ago which broke our logins.  We will update soon with a fix.

  • ankitankit June 2010

We are extremely sorry about the inability to add feeds from your Google Reader account. Its unfortunate that Google changed its authentication method the same day as the update was released. We are working hard to incorporate the change and an improved Google Reader integration should be available in the next update. Stay tuned!

  • KhaledKhaled June 2010

This is absolute bull. The application doesn't work and it's really frustrating. I changed my password to exclude any special characters and it still does not work. Either give us our money back or fix it.

  • leeeleee June 2010

@ankit. Thanks for the notification. Awaiting update. My status: I can apparently log in to Google Reader, but I see no feeds displayed. If I tap the empty Feed area in Pulse ... Pulse crashes. Re-produceable. Happens every time.

  • rdeborjardeborja June 2010

I've been using Reeder and switched to Pulse based on a recommendation from a friend. I'll be going back to Reeder while the Google Reader integration is fixed. It is truly disappointing that this does not work as advertised and will be rating Pulse accordingly in the app store.

  • GeoffreyGeoffrey June 2010

Same problem here. I don't have any non-standard characters in my password....

  • benben June 2010

Exactly the same problem trying to use Pulse and googlereader, it logs me in, no feeds are displayed, click on any letters and it crashes and kicks me out. Please issue me a refund as this app is useless if I cant use my googlereader. Cant believe apple let this thru the app store.

  • TonyTony June 2010

Same for me...It "logs me in" but the log in screen does not disappear. I cannot see my Google feeds, even thou it says I'm logged in. Please fix!
    Otherwise, a sweet app.

  • andyknightandyknight June 2010

I had the same problem. Just bought the app because of its google integration. Is there a fix coming? It is a beautiful app though.

  • ankitankit June 2010

We have submitted the update that fixes this issue and are awaiting apple's approval.

  • Thanks for sorting this out and looking forward to the update. Please ignore the grumpy comments - why is everyone so impatient and angry these days??????

  • MrPaulBMrPaulB July 2010

Looking forward to the update - it's a beautiful reader and will be showing it off like crazy once this bug is fixed.

  • StromgolStromgol July 2010

Don't bullshit us with the Google Authentication change. Reeder initial version 1.0 is still working great. Unless you took the wrong Auth method in the first place?

  • MatthewMatthew July 2010

Could you guys be anymore rude? Saying it's bullshit when they are trying to get this update out as fast as they can doesn't make anything better. You guys really should be ashamed of yourself. The support team has replied multiple times implying that they are working on this as fast as they can.

This is a small team of developers who are trying to make a great application, and all your doing is ripping them apart. You should be happy they are willing to listen too, because most big companies who develop applications for the AppStore (EA, Activision, etc) rarely if at all listen to their customers.

Before you go ahead and flame these guys, think before you speak.

  • MatthewMatthew July 2010

Also from my understanding it seems that with the newest update (July 20th) things seem to be working just fine.

  • mrdariusmrdarius December 2011

Same problem here. Getting an authentication error on Pulse on my iPad when I try to add Google Reader. I do have an ! in my password, so that might be it, but I'd really rather not go through the hassle of making a new password just for Pulse.

  • mrdariusmrdarius December 2011

nevermind. had 2-step authentication turned. just needed to generate a temporary pwd.
